Cinema returns to the Mall

I went to Tyson's yesterday morning to check out the new expansion. I was totally impressed. Not only do they have a full Barnes and Noble (always a sucker for bookstores) but they also had several new trendy clothing and furniture stores. Free People is way over budget for me but the new Papaya seems to specialize in fun cheap clothing, like a specialized "going out" H&M only cheaper. Also, I'm excited about the restaurants on the first floor, Coastal Flats looks like a really fun place to get a weekend lunch or even after work happy hour, they've also put in a Gordon Biersch, so perhaps the two places can feed off each other for the happy hour crowd. Also, there is a new food court on the third floor near the movie theatre, which looks nice and clean, it reminded me very much of the food court in the Dulles town Center, lots of counters for chain fast food stores and a big center full of tables and chairs. They have Five Guys right next to Coldstone Creamery, yum.

However, by far the most startling change, is the relocated Victoria Secret. The storefront is insane! There's no way you can walk by without stopping and staring, the thing has got to be at least PG13. Most of the time Victoria Secret hides their Very Sexy line in the back of the store or off to the side in another room, but this new location seems to have said "We got it and we're gonna flaunt it!" There were at least 10 mannequins showing off the various lingerie bits and pieces along the black with neon pink lighted store front, all posed in erotic positions. Walking by you feel like you've been suddenly transported away from suburban Virginia and into one of the seedier areas of L.A. Yes, it's that shocking! Unsuspecting jaws were seriously dropping as they passed by.

I say, good for you, Victoria Secret! Tyson's needed a little kick in the butt, and you seem to have given it a cock punch as well. Unfortunately, I foresee a large backlash, I'm not sure that Tyson's Corner area is quite ready for this. The soccer moms of McLean and Vienna are going to have a conniption fit, and as we all know soccer moms rule the censoring world. So I don't give the new VS long before is cowers in fear and pushes its more sensitive merchandise back to were it came from, safely away from the front windows. In the mean time, fight on VS, I hope you give the soccer moms a run for their money!

Comments:
my friend megan says the VS looks like a gentleman's club.

Yeah, and Joanne was telling me at lunch today that she heard there were protesters and police outside VS this weekend.
